WaterTrails is a new tourism product developed by the Municipality of São Roque do Pico, inviting visitors to explore the territory through water. Waterfalls, streams, lagoons and hidden natural spots come to life after the rain, revealing unique experiences that often go unnoticed.
More than a collection of locations, WaterTrails offers a different way to explore the island — closer, more immersive, and in tune with the rhythms of nature.
Traditionally, rainy days are seen as a barrier to visiting. WaterTrails proposes the opposite: turning those days into an opportunity.
When it rains, the landscape transforms. Streams gain strength, temporary waterfalls emerge, and the territory reveals a new dimension. This project was created to highlight these moments, offering a meaningful experience even during the low and shoulder seasons.
WaterTrails is built on a sustainable tourism approach, promoting:
Each location includes information that helps visitors understand the natural, geological and environmental context, encouraging a more informed connection with the landscape.
WaterTrails was designed not only for visitors, but also for the local community. By highlighting lesser-known places, it contributes to:
Each location is unique and depends on natural conditions at any given time.
WaterTrails invites you to explore — but also to be responsible.
Leave nothing but footprints.
